The 3 Most Common Causes for Slow Running PCs and Laptops

If you have a slow computer you know how long you have to wait for your computer to boot up and get to the login screen. I had an old PC that took at least 15 to 20 minutes to boot. I couldn't afford a faster top of the line computer so I was stuck with a slow moving tortoise for a PC.

I decided to do some research and found some helpful hints on how to find out what is making my computer so slow. Then fix. Luckily, I had a friend who was into computer repair. He taught me various solutions to increase my pc boot speed.

The 3 most common causes for slow running PCs and laptops are,

1. Viruses, Malware, and nasty Worms.

You can get a virus simply by opening an e-mail and downloading a file onto your hard drive. If you like to download files via P2P filesharing, You have a great risk of infection if you don't have a trustee antivirus program. Malware and worms have been known to corrupt and delete important software and system files.

2. Insufficient Memory,

When you have multiple programs running at once, you can overload your computers RAM. For example if you have only 1 or 2GBs of memory and have different software running that can make your computer slower. Computer software takes up a good percentage of your RAM. You could go to Control Panel and select Add or Remove programs and uninstall software that you're not using. You have to be careful when doing this since you might accidentally remove important programs.

3. Critical Registry Errors

Registry errors are mostly a common cause for slow running PCs. If you are removing certain programs from your hard drive and installing them as well, that can cause disorganization in your system registry. Meaning files can get misplaced and moved around. Your registry database is what makes your software and programs run smoothly. The performance of your PC is based around your system registry. Every PC comes with system tools to assist you with your computer.

I have listed the 3 most common causes for a slow running pc. Now you should definitely have a faster running machine if you followed the steps and have a good set of pc tools. There could be other reasons why your PC is slow running. Maybe the hardware inside is damaged? If so it wouldn't hurt to drop it by a repair shop. You can usually tell if the inside components are broken.

It is important to keep your PC or laptop in tip top shape when it comes performance and efficiency. There are many tools you can use to prevent registry errors, viruses or spyware/malware.
