The Right Headset Increases Job Performance

If you work in an office or a call center, there is a good chance that you use a headset with your work phone. This is a very common thing, because headsets can increase productivity and make your work much easier to accomplish. In order to really get any benefit out of a headset, though, it needs to be the right one.

What Kinds of Headsets are There?

There are several different types of headsets that can be use in the office:

• Monoaural - This means that there is one ear piece on the headset that can be listened through.

• Binaural -This indicates a headset that has two earpieces that can be listened through.

• Wireless or ear headsets - These headsets are either worn in the ear with a single ear piece inside of the ear or with a hook looped around the ear and the ear piece positioned so you can hear through it.

• Bluetooth - This is type of wireless headset that works well with certain electronics that are capable of Bluetooth technology. They may connect to computers and cell phones.

While there are many more types of headsets for different jobs, these are the main headsets that are generally used within the office environment.

How Can the Right Headset Make Your Job Easier?

The main reason that companies use headsets is to increase productivity of their workers. If you are on a hand held phone with your customer, you will not be able to perform any additional task without placing the caller on hold and setting the phone down. With a headset, you can use the computer, look through files, and write down information all while you are still talking to the customer. Multitasking is a way of life in the office and a headset can help you to work more efficiently.

With the right headset, customer service will be a lot easier. On a normal headset, the sound quality of the headset may interfere with the call or your ability to understand or properly hear the customer. When you are looking for the ideal headset, you want the sound to be clear and crisp. This will make your calls go faster and increase your work productivity.

What are the Qualities of a Quality Headset?

There are a few aspects of a quality headset that you will want to look for before you purchase one:

• Volume Control

• Quality Sound Without an Echo

• Protection against background noise - An office setting, especially a call center, can be rather noisy. You will want your callers to be protected from the amount of background noise around you and you will also want to reduce the amount of background noise you are hearing so that you can better serve the customer.

• Protection against feedback noise (like from a fax machine)

Using the right headset can make your job a lot easier and increase your productivity in the workplace. Investing in proper quality headsets for your employees will create a better work atmosphere and a more professional image in the minds of your clients.

Corporate Telecommunications supply branded products from all major manufacturers, plus their own products, to small-to-medium-sized businesses, corporate and trade customers throughout the UK. In particular, they supply headsets and associated equipment to call centres and contact centres. This is where to get the best headset.

The Story of Bluetooth

Wireless bluetooth technology was developed in 1994 by engineers at Ericsson in Sweden. Eventually, a small grouping of vendors such as Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Toshiba, and Nokia created the Bluetooth Special Interest Group(SIG) in order to formalize the technology and make it an industry standard.

Bluetooth relies on a frequency-hopping spread spectrum radio technology to relay wirelessly between a master gadget and as many as seven slave products. This means that your main device, whether it be a smart phone, a laptop computer, or and mp3 player, can have as many as seven distinct Bluetooth devices connected with it concurrently. Although it could possibly appear that all devices are doing the job at the same time, the actual master device essentially talks to each slave product in fast sequence. It occurs so rapidly you won't ever notice, even while playing tunes on Wireless bluetooth earbuds.

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communication technology. Systems have an average range of about thirty ft. Of course, the farther apart you are, the less condition the transmission will have. It's usually no huge worry simply because Bluetooth devices are intended to operate in closeness to the master unit. A few examples of this include a wireless mouse and keyboard for your computer system, as well as wireless stereo speakers for your home music system.

Since Bluetooth technology also has such a short range, it consumes hardly any power. This is very important, because so many Bluetooth products are small and do not have room for big batteries. This allows you to use your device for extended durations before you must replace batteries or recharge.

There have been 3 major variations of Bluetooth, all versions are backwards compatible with previous variations.

Bluetooth v1: Bluetooth experienced a uncertain start. It didn't have essential security, was slow-moving, as well as was more prone to interference. Throughout up coming updates v1.1 in addition to v1.2, many of those early bugs were resolved.

Bluetooth v2: Released in '04, the primary difference in this variation was speedier information transfer without impacting energy consumption. In version v2.1 secure simple sharing was initially released which improved the pairing experience while strengthening safety measures.

Bluetooth v3: Adopted by the SIG during 2009, Bluetooth 3.0 data transfer rate as much as 24 Mbit/s, eight times greater in comparison with version 2. This is accomplished simply by mixing the Bluetooth together with 802.11 Wireless technology. Look for Bluetooth equipment featuring a +HS on the box, that means these devices supports this cutting edge high-speed technology.

Look for more related to Bluetooth on Wikipedia as well as the official Bluetooth web site. With Bluetooth remaining versatile, standardised, and utilizing small energy, it is the prefect technology for short range wireless technology.

There are many devices that use this technology including Bluetooth earbuds, speakers, and computer peripherals. You can read more about the former at Bluetooth earbuds online.

The Two Devices That Make Up a Wireless Network

I am going to take a look at wireless networking devices. The first device you will need is a modem. Basically, a modem is a device that takes analog waves which are transmitted over telephone lines, and converts them into a digital signal which can be read by a computer and then back to an analog signal to travel through the phone line once again. You do want a good modem or you are going to have a never ending headache like my mom's modem gave me all through Jr. High and high school. I managed to find the Actiontex GT701D modem. This modem has a built-in double commercial-grade firewall for added security. It has a single Ethernet port which ensures compatibility with virtually all network-ready computer systems and DSL Internet service providers. For those of you that have children this router offers parental control features. It is also preconfigured for simple setup, which is always nice. This modem also has a feature that I have not seen before. That is remote management support. This lets you adjust the modems from a location outside of the network. This modem has great reviews, except for its manual. Although, from what I have read the quick start guide that comes on the modem's program takes you easily through all the steps you need to setup the modem. This modem also has a great low price of $50.

The second device needed is a wireless router takes the connection the internet connection, usually from a modem, and broadcasts it to wireless devices. The router needs to be powerful enough to handle as many devices and bandwidths as you normally demand. You also need it to be secure enough to keep your privacy and information safe. After looking around I found a router that would meet the needs of most college students. The router I found was the Cisco Linksys - E1000 Wireless-N Router. This router would not hold up to having dozens of devices connected and active at the same time, but it can handle a few, which would be enough for most college students. The router also has a 300 mbps data transfer rate, which is plenty fast enough to meet the needs of most people. The Cisco Linksys E1000 is an N router, which is the latest network version, but it is also compatible with older B and G standards. This allows your older devices to connect to it. This router has up to 128-bit encryption to keep all your information secure. This level of encryption is impressive. This may not be the top of the line wireless network router, but that is the reason you can get it for only $50, and it is still plenty good enough to meet the needs of most college students. I have yet to mention the best part. According to the many reviews I shifted through, this router is extremely easy to set up which is always a nice relief.

Top 5 iPad Financial Apps

The iPad is a relatively new device but every since it was released it has become extremely popular just like its predecessors the iPod and the iPhone. Many people now can't live without the iPad and rely on it heavily for a number of different reasons. For many the reason they love this gadget is because it has a number of finance applications.

In a worldwide economic recession we all need to pay more attention to how we spend our money and how we can increase our income with sound investments. The finance apps for the iPad help you to do just that, you can keep up with your budget while you keep up with your stocks. Here is a list of the Top 5 iPad financial apps that are currently at the app store.

1. If you are an investor, Compoundee HD is ideal for you. This app only costs you $2.99 and will help you calculate the possible outcomes of a particular investment over time. This app can be used to calculate both inflation as well as tax adjusted progression rates along with amortization schedules.

2. Next for investors is MarketScan. This is really a stock tool which gives you the opportunity to find stocks quickly and easily based on your predefined settings. It comes at a whopping $30 from the app store but it has a lot of features for the dedicated investor.

3. Our next favorite is the Grocery IQ. This is ideal for anybody shopping on a budget but women tend to favor and use this one more than our male counterparts. This app is free at the app store so you really don't have an excuse for not having it on your iPad. One of the most amazing features of this app is that it allows you to find coupons which you can apply to your grocery savings card.

4. Next is the Expense Tablet which is a great way to keep up with how you spend your money and on what. It is great for the entire family, as it ensures that you follow your budget as closely as possible. You can also depict your spending over a couple of months with the use of graphs which can be exported to other applications. This app costs $0.99.

5. Lastly is the app called Square which is an app that can allow you to accept credit card transactions for your charity or business or for any reason you need to accept a credit card. This is a handy app for yard sales so you don't turn away customers that don't have enough cash... ha ha! Best part - it's free!

Top 5 Media Streamers 2011

Media players are big business these days, but go back as little as 5 years and nobody would've known what you were talking about. However times have changed thanks to great developments like HD and streaming. In this article I list the top 5 media players as of June 2011.

One note before we begin: I have not counted HTPCs, these home theatre PCs are unique species and will be dealt with separately. This list is for set-up like boxes only.

5. Apple TV

This media player scores high thanks to its great iTunes integration and interface. The box is also whisper quiet and very small. For people that have all their content stored on iTunes, this is simply the best box to get. Finally Airplay is the best invention for iDevice users... ever, and highly wanted in the world of tech.

4. D-link boxee box

This Black-green box tends to make heads turn due to its unusual design. It almost looks like the box was on the verge of being consumed by a greater power, but it hasn't. Instead it is very much grounded and available for users to buy. The Boxee box has powerful hardware from Intel, and supports virtually every format known to man, and it doesn't stop there. D-link has also added support for online functionality such as a full browser with flash, and plenty of apps. The only reason this device isn't higher up this list is because it's very energy consuming and pricey.

3. Western Digital Live Plus HD Media Player

This is the catchy name behind one of WD's most promoted product. The WD Live Plus is a great buy thanks to its incredible low price point (under $90) and support for most formats. On top of that this device is small, energy efficient and supports the network functionality one comes to expect from a media player. Little problems prevent this price fighter from conquering a higher place in this list.

2. AC Ryan HD2

The new Realtek chips fixes problems from older models and offers a much greater user experience. That ingredient powers the number 2 on this list: the AC Ryan HD2 series. The company have made a great name for themselves by offering fantastic support at a low price point, and it pays off. The Ac Ryan begins at just $90 (without HDD option) and tops at $130 (with HDD option). For those prices you get a great design, support for every format, a nice menu and great software support for anything the industry comes up with in the near future. The only downside is an iffy Internet functionality.

Before I announce the winner, first I want to mention a couple of players that didn't make this list of champions. First off is the Xtreamer Prodigy. This aluminium box was announced at CES in January and promises to be the best Realtek 1185 player on the market today. However 6 months after the unwrapping and it's still not available, and even worse, features are being dropped left and right. Most noticeably: the Airplay feature, which would've put this thing greatly on top of the AC Ryan.

Also forgotten is the Mede8er MED500X2. This is another Realtek player that does everything the AC Ryan does, but at a much higher price point. It's no looker either. Therefore I question the value of this player over other competitors.

And the winner is....

1. Popcorn Hour A-210

For me it's a no brainer. Syabas has made great name in the media market and they're back. The Popcorn Hour A-210 is a passive cooled device with an unmatched simplistic design. It supports all media formats known to man, has an app store, and the possibility of an optional HDD, which upgrades it from a player to a full fetched HUB. And thanks to the arguably superior Sigma chip, everything runs smooth and instant. The only downsides are the price and plastic feeling remote. (which isn't really bad but could've been better)

And those are my top 5 media players to watch this summer. As you may know, most of these players are very similar, which makes the overall feel of the device pay dividends. Right now the Popcorn Hour leaps ahead in that department, making it the best way to view your media on the big screen. Congratulations Syabas!

Two Essential iPad Apps for Remote Productivity

I consider my iPad to be the best productivity tool I have. Small and light enough to carry anywhere with an all-day battery life, it goes to meetings, on road trips, and on the train. Even though I leave my laptop at home I don't miss it at all! These two iPad apps give me access to my laptop, my important documents, and everything I need to be productive anywhere I go - for business or pleasure.

Screens by Edovia

Screens is a VNC client that allows you to connect to your desktop. There are two ways to connect to the remote desktop: over your local network or over the internet. Connecting over your local network is very easy. Simply launch the app and it will locate all the computers on your local network. Then, just touch the one you want. Download the Screens Connect applet from the Edovia website to make connecting over the internet just as easy. In three clicks and under five minutes your desktop is now accessible anywhere your iPad is. Screens requires that your home router supports the UPnP protocol. The Screens user experience is joyous, fluid, and fast. Even on a mediocre connection the graphics are crisp and the elegant user interface makes navigation easy, even for first time users. Your desktop is automatically resized to fit your iPad screen and you simply touch the screen to click on an object. This is the best VNC app available for iPad at the moment, and has been my best app purchase so far.

CloudApp by Linebreak

If you need to share documents easily, then CloudApp is your solution. CloudApp supports plugins called "raindrops" which allow the app to work with external applications such as iTunes and Firefox. This makes it easy to share content without having to switch applications. Additional raindrops are available to increase the integration points with the applications you use. CloudApp installs as an item in your menu bar. Sharing a file is a simple as dragging it from your finder window to the small cloud icon at the top of your screen. If multiple files are selected a zip archive is automatically created. As your file is uploading, CloudApp copies a URL for your upload to your Clipboard. You can use this URL for Facebook, LinkedIn, or anything else. CloudApp also has a keyboard shortcut you can use, making sharing a file a one-step process.

Types of Tablet Computers and Their Advantages

A slate PC is a slate-formed computer, also known as a tablet, that has a touch screen that is controlled by use of the fingers, digital pen or stylus. Data is directly keyed in on the touch screen display and the signal processed to output a recognizable response. They are in use for industrial and entertainment use due to a number of features. The different categories of slate PCs vary according to applications, sizes and unique features.

One type of tablet available today is the slate tablet PC. This type is very similar to the original writing slate. It does not have a keyboard attached. The mode of data input includes handwriting recognition, digital pen and stylus, as well as finger touch. They have ports as well as wireless provision for connection to a keyboard. This type of tablet is mostly used in industries with limited mobility options and harsh working conditions. These include manufacturing industries, health, education sectors and any field related industries. They are specially modified to withstand extreme conditions like heat, humidity and impact. For impact protection, they have an extra sturdy casing as well as a protective covering on the display.

Other types of tablets are the convertible tablet pc, booklet tablet and a hybrid tablet. The convertible tablet looks almost like a conventional laptop because the screen is attached to a base via a single junction. The screen is then placed on top of a keyboard. They are very common and widely used since they utilize both the traditional physical keyboard as well as the touch screen options. A booklet tablet pc opens up like a normal book. They are normally used for browsing the internet, reading eBooks as well as internet television. They can detect a stylus as well as finger input. A hybrid tablet integrates both the slate and the convertible tablet. They have a removable keyboard which is detached when not required.

Tablets present a number of advantages to the user such as:

1. They are very light and compact.
2. They have features that are capable of capturing and storing data such as diagrams and equations.
3. These are easily accessible usually at a single touch.
4. The seamless access to data is achieved through the touch screen feature, which eliminates the need for a keyboard or mouse.
5. Lastly due to their sleek and slim nature, slate PCs can be placed and used on almost any working surface, thus making them ideal for use at home, fieldwork, extremely cramped spaces like in offices and industries.

Understanding Computer Networks

When most people think of computer networks they think of large businesses. Many people have networked their home systems to enable a shared internet connection, shared files and even shared printing capabilities. The process of sharing resources and data between more than one computer is referred to as computer networking. When you link the computers together they are capable of not only sharing the internet connection, printer, FAX and other components but are also capable of sharing files, pictures, songs and other data stored on the hard disk.

Networking Explained

The network can be divided into a local or small area network such as a LAN network where computers are shared within an office building or home space, MAN where two or more locations are connected throughout an area and WAN where the network can be created to connect to a home or office from anywhere in the country.

WAN is the most common use for connectivity, it allows the network to connect to millions of computers across the globe. The WAN network is the world's largest network and through connection if a router and running the proper software you can be connected to any location from just about anywhere in the world.

Computer networks can be wired or wireless, although there are not many who use the wired feature these days. Depending on the set up you need, how you need to access the main computer and how many you need to link together will determine the type of network you need to create.

There are two main ways to connect the computers, through client-server systems and through peer-2-peer servers. The client-server network has a main computer or computers that work as the server for the network. The data, files, pictures, docs and other information is stored on these servers that are then accesses from various computers that are on the network. The other computers in the network are called the clients and they are linked to the server to get any or all of their information.

Peer-2-Peer networks allow each computer to choose what information will be shared. There is no main server where it is all stored, each hard drive is open to the network and each computer on the network will be given the appropriate access to the hard drives on each system. Most home users have the peer-2-peer network setup where they can pick and choose what information is needed or wanted from each system in the home on the network. Most businesses use the client-server network with different topologies or structures or designs within their layouts.

The common language or communications between computers when networking are known as protocols. The most popular and commonly used protocols are the TCP/IP where it works with several protocols and not just a single protocol. The TCP/IP protocol can be used and will work with either wired or wireless connections and can be used through the client-server or peer-2-peer networks.

Setting Up a Home Network

There are some great programs out there that will walk you through setting up a home network in no time. You do not have to be a network engineer and it takes little knowledge of how the network actually works. You basically only have to the systems you wish to connect or link together in the network, an internet connection and the ability to follow simple instructions. If you are setting up a wireless internet connection you will not have to worry about running cables from one computer to the next and the only thing that will be done is some simple changes in the networking section of each computer. You can create a secured connection that is protected with a password to ensure that you do not have an open connection to outsiders who wish to snoop through your shared files. You get the option on each system to choose what you want to share and what you do not. You can create a folder that is for the network and put it on a virtual drive, this way no one can enter the actual computer's hard drive, just the file and what is stored on it. The process for computer networks is simple and easy to do and can make a multiple computer home run much smoother.

What Is the Best Choice - Buy or Repair?

Your PC isn't working and it is important to be able to use it. Perhaps you use it for work and without it you won't get anything done to make money. You need to get your computer up and running quickly. You need the files that are on the PC for your job. Did you back up all of your files or will you lose them now that your computer isn't working? You have a problem. You need to get the PC working. Do you give up on it and go buy a new one or do you get this one repaired?

If you buy new you will lose all of the files and software that you have installed and downloaded. If you have photos they will be lost to you. This is something you will want to consider if you are thinking about going out and purchasing a new computer. You may be better off if you get your old one repaired.

Depending on the price you are quoted to get your laptop or desktop repaired it is important to take into consideration the importance of the files you have on it. Remember that all the files and data are actually worth something. If not to someone else it is valuable to you. Figure in what all that data is worth when deciding on fixing your broken computer.

Many computer repair services have the ability to clean viruses and to retrieve information on your machine. If a virus wiped out your PC you may be able to have it removed with a good antivirus software program. Repair shops have some of the best virus software there is. They may be able to save the hard drive and everything on it with the right program.

When you get your computer fixed you can get a price on what it is going to cost before you agree. If the price is more than what the computer is worth and you can replace the data yourself, you may want to buy a new machine. You can also buy a new computer and have the data from the old one retrieved and stored on the new one. Repair shops will do this for you too. Check prices on the different options available to you and then decide what is the best way to go.

To prevent having to have repairs done to your PC or mac you need to use surge protectors at all times. Surge protectors will save you quite a bit of money in damages that could happen. You have no control over when there is going to be a power surge but you do have control of stopping the surge before it reaches your machine. It is also important to keep antivirus software on your machine. Make sure it is a good program that regularly updates itself so you are protected from viruses. You have to remember that new viruses roam free on the internet. Your program may not recognize the newest ones and damage can be done.

What to Look for When Buying a Waterproof MP3 Player

About Waterproof MP3 players

It was inevitable that enterprising MP3 manufacturers would eventually come up with waterproof models of portable music players. Music as you exercise is motivational, and swimming laps pass quicker with the addition of music. Add to that the general noisiness of your average swimming pool then a waterproof MP3 player is to be welcomed by many swimmers.

However, electrical components and water are generally incompatible, and it has been a challenge for manufacturers to come up with a reliable product that does not short out after a few uses. The chlorine in many swimming pools adds its own corrosive nature and anybody using an underwater MP3 device should be prepared to maintain it with regular rinsing and cleaning of susceptible jack points.

What to look for when buying a Waterproof MP3 player

There are three key areas to consider before handing over your hard-earned cash for this type of waterproof gadget device: usability, functionality and price.

The usability refers to the physical comfort of the product, its practical operation waterproof and whether it suits your personal needs. The most critical area of usability is the earpieces that form your direct contact with the music. You need to consider whether you have a choice of sizes of ear bud, after all ear canals vary in shape and size. Is the ear bud shaped to be placed deep into the ear; this is not always safe and is often uncomfortable. You should try on the headset before buying, if it is loose when you are not underwater, imagine how easily it will slip off once you are swimming, and result in loss of sound.

Functionality is the different features of the MP3 player; the critical aspect being the ease of use underwater, check out the buttons, can you use them with your eyes shut? Also, which formats do the MP3 support? Generally MP3 and WMA, but how easy is it to download and move music from your PC to the player?

The last criteria should be price, once you know what works or does not, that is when you see what is available in your price range!

Conclusion

Waterproof MP3 players have had mixed reviews, read all of them before making a choice. Do not be afraid to ask awkward questions when buying this product, and make sure that you have at least 12 months warranty on your choice of waterproof MP3 player.

Simon Cernuta writes reviews about waterproof MP3 players. Underwater MP3 players are a great tool for swimmers, surfers, people who like to kayak or do other water related activities.

The iPad 2 is such versatile piece of kit, just about everybody in the family and workplace has use for one. But for every iPad, there must be an iPad case! Different people, of course, have entirely different needs. This series aims to find the best iPad 2 case for you, the user. From Moms and Dads to their kids, to business users, each has a slightly different requirement.

Family-

OK, all things considered, a family needs a STRONG iPad 2 case. Little hands can be clumsy at times and the last thing you need to see is your iPad 2 plummeting towards the ground! The Otterbox Defender Case offers probably the best protection around. While not the most aesthetically pleasing of cases, its hi-impact polycarbonate shell and silicone outer skin are made for spills and bumps. It also features the standard stands we're all used to by now for great viewing and typing angles. You can buy it now, at Amazon.

Business-

The iPad 2 is a great bit of business kit, with graphs, notes and presentations a breeze with its super intuitive software. Many business people are replacing their laptops and netbooks with an iPad 2 because of its compact shape and weight, coupled with incredible OS speed and reliability. Now with iOS 5 on the horizon, business users will be able to make wireless presentations through AirPlay, making the laptop even more redundant. So to look the part when going to the big meeting, the Snugg iPad 2 Leather Case is great looking and flexible. Already the best selling iPad 2 case in the USA, it offers and professional look and stylish feels with its leather exterior. Easy access to all the ports too make this an essential purchase for any business use. You can grab one at Amazon, now!

Student-

Having been a student for some years myself, the broke stereotype isn't always too far off the mark! So for a great value but high quality iPad 2 case, I have to recommend the TeckNet iPad 2 Folio Leather Case. For a fraction of the price of so-called 'premium ' cases, this offers great protection and usability at a very affordable price. Made from high quality synthetic leather, it also features a magnet in the flip cover, acts just like the official Apple Smart Cover! This case really knocks spots off other cases two and three times its price. Available in both black and brown.

Girls-

For real 'girly' girls, a pink iPad 2 case is a must. The Duragadget Pink Leather Case/Stand is a high quality case with some great features. Adjustable viewing angles are available from the 'kick' stand and all ports are readily accessable with the case on. Shielded magnetic closure means that your iPad 2 goes to sleep whenever the cover is closed, opening it wakes it again! For ladies on the move it also comes with a bonus car charger and screen protector. Fantastic value! Get one today, girls!

Finally.... Screen Protectors.

Whoever you are, whatever you use your iPad 2 for, that beautiful screen needs to be protected. Scratching the screen is almost too easy, and heartbreaking when it happen. Screen protectors are now at great low prices, so there's really no excuse for not getting some. A 6 pack should be plenty (for novices the first one always has some bubbles!), so please, even before you even think of a case, get some decent screen protectors. Some great value ones available.

So that's it for now, leave me some comments!

Why Does China Want Your Gmail Account?

Google is certain that the latest hacking attempt comes from Jinan, China as a phishing scam to obtain gmail passwords. This type of attack happens all the time, but since senior level US government officials, military personnel and political activists were targeted the intent seems much more sinister. The attacks were common phishing schemes that are not very sophisticated opening speculation that this was testing the water and that the information may be used for broader attacks.

If someone has your username and password, they can hijack your account. Not only will they have access to your email, but they can change account settings, forward email and send email as you. If you are unaware that your account has been compromised, the hacker can play havoc with your information and identity.

Certainly, you have heard these warnings: create a strong password, don't divulge username and password information especially from email requests, use a good anti-virus, have malware protection and keep a good backup. This cannot be stressed enough - create a strong password for your important accounts. Next, use a two-step verification or authentication whenever possible. This is another way to prove it is you. Google uses a strategy where they will send a unique code to your phone that is required to sign in. The problem with this security measure is that it is not convenient as it takes another step and more time. Too often users choose convenience over security.

When you use more than one email address and if you send to a mobile device, be sure that you use security measures that adequately protect your information. The more valuable the information, the more protection is needed. and just like physical security, use barriers as deterrents. In the digital and virtual world, barriers are passwords, tokens, PINs and other information that only you will know.

Why Does My Computer Keep Crashing - How to Stop This and Fix It Now

How many times have you recently been sitting in front of your computer saying to yourself "What is taking this thing so long. When I first got my computer everything moved so quickly. Now things just drag on and sometimes it even crashes on me unexpectedly." If you have been experiencing these problems you're not alone.

Almost everyone who owns a computer will over time experience an increasing amount of instability and reduction in responsiveness and speed. When the problem gets bad enough, unless you know how to fix the problem most times people either resort to costly technicians or even just replacing their computer for another one. There are things you can do with a limited about of computer knowledge that restore most of if not all of your computers performance and stability without costing you an arm and a leg.

Here is what you need to do.

#1 First, you are going to have to do a little spring cleaning on your computer hard drive. While you may think that your just installing, uninstalling, deleting, creating or moving files around on your computer the reality is that after you do all that for a while your hard drive becomes a total mess. Moving files you don't use every day to a more permanent external source such as an external hard drive will free up a lot of space.

Next make sure that you clean your computers cache of temporary files and cookies. Lastly, you need to organize the remaining files. This means running a defragmentation on your computer so all of your files are organized.

#2 Secondly, you need to make sure your computer isn't a host to unwanted malware, viruses and spyware. Proper protection includes security software that runs in the background all the time on your computer while keeping itself up to date with the latest virus fighting information.

#3 Next, you need to clean your computer from dust buildup. Over time dust quickly can build up in your system. Most times all it takes is to open up the computer case and blow it out with compressed air. If you don't feel comfortable doing this on your own it can be done by either a local computer shop or even someone you know who is familiar with computers. It usually only takes maybe 10 minutes to perform.

If dust builds up like this the result will be less cool air circulating in your computer and your computer will struggle to maintain performance and will freeze and even crash.

#4 Making sure that your computers registry is working properly is very important. The registry is an extremely important part of your computer that makes its fast response time possible. When the data within the registry becomes corrupted it can significantly slow down and compromise your computer. The good news is that with a system and registry scanner you can perform a registry scan and repair as well as other different types of important maintenance on your computer with just a few clicks of your mouse. Following these steps here will give you a solution as to why your computer keeps crashing and fix it quickly.

Here is the #1 solution for a Slow Computer fix this will make your computer faster, just click here now

Why Were Barcodes Developed?

Barcodes are found on almost every item that a consumer encounters. They contain UPC information that relates to the product and, when scanned by any of the multiple available types of barcode scanners, they send an automatic electronic signal to the cash register. This process enables stores to offer quick checkouts and removes the probability of human error.

Barcodes were originally invented, by David Collins, as a tracking system for railroad cars. In 1961, the Boston and Maine Railroad began testing these KarTrack barcodes. Collins quickly decided to expand upon his early success and began soliciting other business. Response was slow at first, but by the end of the 1960s the United States Postal Service and General Motors both had tracking systems in place.

The grocery industry saw the potential for barcodes and scanners and the Kroger chain volunteered to be the first to test it. In 1974, a pack of Wrigley chewing gum was the first coded product to be passed over a grocery store barcode scanner. Since that time they have become almost universally used and accepted, both for ringing up customers and for inventory control.

Although the barcodes themselves have stayed essentially the same, scanner technology has continued to evolve. Long gone are the days that required an electrical outlet for scanners. Now there are multiple different handheld wireless scanners, which can be utilized at a checkout lane or for scanning in inventory.

Cordless scanners are also used in the workplace to replace traditional time clocks. Employers can provide their employees with timecards which feature a barcode and then that card is scanned each time the employee clocks in or out. This eliminates the need for paper time cards, thus reducing costs while also being more environmentally friendly.

Barcode technology is also used by stores that offer membership and discount cards. These cards are loaded with a code that allows a scanner to identify the consumer and to instantly link their account, and any applicable perks, to the transaction. This process works in the same way as imprinted time cards and, again, eliminates the need for paper as stores no longer have to issue coupons to offer specials to specific customers.

Regardless of the size of a company, laser scanners are an essential startup item. Running a business without them would require a much larger time investment, thereby sending operating costs through the roof. Barcode and scanner technology forever changed the face of supermarkets and other retail stores in the 1970s, but it is also applicable to almost every type of business. If your company has any type of item that is sold to or sent out to others then you absolutely need to embrace this technology.

The Baffling Question of How to Speed Up My Computer

Working long hours on the computer is doubly tiring if the computer is very slow. It also takes a lot of valuable time, not to mention the wasted electricity. Then the thought on ways how to speed up my computer begin to crop up. A diagnostic freeware available at the internet can be engaged to find out the causes of the sluggishness.

Many self-help jobs can be done to speed up the computer. Destructive Spywares, Adware, Trojan and Viruses are suspects to the torpidity. One of the first things to do when purchasing a computer system is to install good Anti-Virus software, but if this was not done, a free virus scan can be done on-line. Remember too that there are contaminations that can enter the system undetected by the installed virus guard. Its virus data base may not be updated and certain viruses may also not be known to the anti-virus.

Scanning the system for unwanted programs and viruses can proceed. Deletion of any contaminated file should be done if the anti-virus engine is unable to clean them. Important files could be the victims, but there is no choice but to remove them or risk a system crash. Viruses hide in the computer memory, and just like their ecology counterparts, they spread like disease. They affect the Random Access Memory (RAM).

If the virus scan yields no dubious file detections, the computer may then be weighted down by unnecessary files. It is time to clean-up the desktop. This may be the solution to the perplexity of how to speed up my computer.

Examining the Program Files might reveal the presence of software that is of no use. Just click the "Start" button of the taskbar then press the "Control Panel" and look for "Add or Remove Programs". Software drivers may include other programs not to your knowledge. The prompts of installation discs generally recommend "Express Install" over the "Custom Install". Express install downloads everything from the driver in contrast to the custom install that have choices to set-up.

When programs are installed, connections to the Operating System (OS) are established whether such programs are used or not. It slows down the system every time the computer is rebooted. Removing them frees up disc space that leaves the RAM decongested. Consider the option of adding RAM memory hardware to the computer to elicit a more responsive system. Browse the internet for an additional RAM options.

In the event that the OS is not fully conformable with a hardware configuration, the system's technical requirements must be referred to. The web can also give valuable information on this highly technical and sensitive matter. Nasty problems can be avoided if the system is properly configured. It is important to note that hardware devices and the computer system should work together. Slowness may just be a symptom to a more nightmarish problem. If the system configuration is well in order, it might be the ultimate solution to the baffling how to speed up my computer.

The Consequences Of Failing To Follow Data Destruction Guidelines

Data in and of itself is simply a set of bits that becomes information only when it is interpreted and used. Information has a life that can be quantified. Most information loses its value over time, though there are some exceptions. But those exceptions and the lifetime of information must both be defined or serious consequences may ensue. Some information may be needed for years, while other sets of information may have a lifespan of months, weeks or even days. A business must remember that information comes from data, which is a physical imprint on some physical device that does not go away when the useful life of the information is over. A physical action must be completed to close the lifecycle: data destruction.

The useful life of information will indicate the retention period of the underlying data. When the end of the retention period for that data is reached, then, for many reasons both strategic and practical, the data must be purged from all systems.

The most obvious benefit of data retention and destruction guidelines is the freeing up of data storage capacity. It costs money to retain data, so why should you pay to retain data that is no longer needed? Besides the reductions in cost, data destruction guidelines makes computer management that much easier because there is that much less data to manage.

But freeing up disk space is not the primary reason for these guidelines. The retention of information depends on the nature and the usefulness of the information. Also, the sensitivity and confidentiality of the information must be taken into account. Considering the state of computer forensics these days, old data, even if deleted, can still be recovered -- this action is totally unacceptable with any information deemed sensitive or confidential. Such information must be purged according to defined guidelines based on the useful lifetime of the information.

There is another instance in which unfavourable consequences will ensure if data destruction guidelines are not followed. Hardware replacement occurs all the time. A laptop screen burns out or a desktop workstation must be replaced. Consider the data sitting on the hard drive. What if a failed hard drive must be returned to the manufacturer for a warranty replacement? In all those situations, the data still sits on the storage components of those devices and can be retrieved. We're talking about such important information as your confidential client lists, descriptions of your proprietary processes or sensitive details about your upcoming projects. You do not want that information released to your competitors. Consider the lawsuits that may result if there's a release of patient data if you're a medical office or a release of client tax data if you're an accounting firm.

Then, on top of all these situations, think about all the government regulations that spell out in detail how certain types of business must handle data related to clients or to company finances. Legal consequences may indeed be severe if data retention and destruction guidelines are not followed.

The Future of Flipchart Easels - Nobo Kapture

Picture the scenario, you've just finished a three hour brain storming meeting and have lots of great new ideas to go away and work on. Only issue is the meeting notes were taken on a flipchart pad that is now spread across the meeting room and you need to get it back into some sort of order and type up all the notes. If this sounds like an all too familiar situation the the Nobo Kapture System might just be for you.

How it Works

Nobo Kapture digital flipchart solution that allows for written or drawn presentation content to be captured automatically and in real time. The system requires a Nobo Kapture Flipchart, a digital marker and a USB receiver and a standard Flipchart Easels. The Digital Flipchart Pad and Marker are the key components of the Kapture system. The pad is printed with a pattern of dots which recognise what you are writing (including Graphs and Diagrams) and then transmits this to your computer. The USB receiver with integrated Bluetooth technology and pre installed software captures the data from the digital marker allowing for the presentation to be edited and shared with others.

Getting Started

The Nobo Kapture starter kit includes a Digital Flipchart, Digital Marker Pen, USB receiver and configuration card. The USB receiver is plug and play and should install automatically, alternatively it can be downloaded from the Nobo Kapture website. Additional flipchart pads and pens can be purchased as and when required and the flipchart pads themselves will fit any standard size flipchart easel. Once the system is set up correctly capturing a presentation happens automatically and appears on your computer immediately. The presenter does not need to worry about monitoring the system and can focus on delivering their information or running the meeting.

Data Capture

The capture of data is activated by the pressure applied to the pad so a bit of experimenting prior to your first proper usage may be worthwhile. In order to ensure the accurate data capture all writing and drawing should be slow and deliberate so you may have to amend your presentation style to get the best from the system. However, the end rewards will be worth the extra effort and will save you time in the long run.

Editing the Information

You can edit directly from within the Nobo Kapture software and this is a great tool to help clear up the sheets and make them more legible.

There are a lot of neat functions that help make editing simple. Each pen stroke is recorded as an object which allows for quick amendments to be made. You can also cut and paste objects between different pages and rotate objects up to 360 degrees. You can also amend the colours of what's been captured so if you want to highlight key points in red and leave the rest as black then no problem.

Who Should Buy One

Any person or business who conducts regular meetings using a standard flip chart pad should give Nobo Kapture a serious look. It can be a big time saver when it comes to typing up the meeting notes and allows you to focus on what you're trying to achieve from the meeting rather than trying to keep tidy notes.

Understanding USB Cables

In the world of cables, there are many types. One that has permeated the market is USB. USB is short for Universal Serial Bus and offers support for computer hardware, such as keyboards, mice, and storage devices. You can also find it used on items such as PDAs and cell phones. It has a maximum length of 5 meters, or about 16.4 feet. However, you can easily obtain longer connections by using hubs. Two common kinds are 1.1 and 2.0, with 3.0 gaining popularity as well.

USB 1, the original design, supports slower running items with a maximum speed of 1.5MB per second. USB 2.0 came along next and offers faster speeds of up to 40MB per second. It can be found on external hard drives, card readers, printers, scanners, and more. Both types can often mix and match, with each being found on the same computer or hub. While 1.1 hubs will work on 2.0 ports, they will still run at slower 1.1 speeds. And vice versa is also true; USB 2 hubs will work with older 1.1 computers as well.

These cables have several different types available. Type A is used on most devices, such as computer ports. Type B is seen on hubs. Peripheral devices are connected to computers through USB A-B cables. Mini-USB, 4-pin, is used for portable devices, often cell phones or cameras. Mini-USB, 5-pin, is also used for portable devices. However, the extra pin makes if perfect for cell phones and cameras as well as external hard drive devices, i.e., hard disk drives and optical disc storage. And finally there is Micro-USB. Micro-USB, as the name suggests, is considerably smaller than Mini-USB and will eventually replace it. You can find Micro-USB on smart phones and PDAs.

USB 3.0 came along more than ten years after the original (1996 to 2007). USB 3.0, also known as SuperSpeed, works ten times as fast as 2.0. It offers higher performance and better power management while still being fully functional for use on USB 2.0 devices. USB 3.0 only comes in Type A, Type B, and Micro-USB formats.

With its superior speeds and functionality, USB 3.0 is likely to one day replace all other USB devices. That day, however, is farther out than one might think. Currently, over 10 billion devices utilize USB 2.0 technology. In addition to widespread use, USB 2.0 is less costly and will coexist with USB 3.0 for many years to come. In time, the difference in cost will narrow over the course of many years and USB 3.0 will slowly become the industry standard for high speed external interfacing.

Overall, USB remains a household staple with all the technology we enjoy. Just about everyone these days has some sort of digital device, be it a computer, camera, or cell phone. Whether you use 1.1, 2.0, or 3.0, you now have a little bit more of an understanding of what USB is and the different types in use. And for those using high speed devices, investing in 3.0 now could be a smart choice.

What Is IT Asset Disposition (ITAD)?

Companies struggling to remain competitive in an increasingly technical world are finding that immense capital resources are being used to purchase new equipment. Properly disposing of old equipment offers another costly challenge. Failure to uphold disposal regulations can result in irrevocable legal and environmental damage. Information Technology Asset Disposition (ITAD) offers a variety of strategies to deal with these difficulties and return part of a company's technological investments.

Auditing and Equipment Reinvestment

IT Asset Disposition can be undertaken by internal IT professionals or external companies. Both alternatives have individual benefits but provide the same basic services. Initially, an ITAD strategy will implement in-depth auditing of equipment and their barcodes, serial numbers and other ID numbers. This ensures that accurate reporting on ITAD implementation can be given. The second process undertaken involves reinvestment in the current technology infrastructure. Minor hardware and software upgrades can prevent the purchase of new equipment for years at a time. This delay allows for needed products to diminish in cost and become more able to perform to company requirements.

Reselling and Recycling Logistics

Those computer devices that are not worth reinvesting typically see two futures. Many are sold to customers who have a lesser need for their computing. This is often the case with large servers as companies grow and upgrade. ITAD professionals always ensure that secure data destruction methods are employed to prevent a breach of secure information. Equipment that cannot be reused or resold is typically sent to a recycling facility that upholds a policy for zero landfill use. This goal is obtained by separating each component within the device and breaking it down to be used in a new manufacturing process.

Liability, Environmental Resolution and Capital Recovery

Implementation of each of the IT asset disposition techniques allows for resolution of issues that can create legal liabilities and environmental damage while returning some of the original investment. During secure data destruction the private and confidential information stored on hard drives and other media is irrevocably destroyed. Zero landfill recycling policies prevent any waste is allowed to contribute to environmental degradation. Furthermore, reselling to outside companies recoups computer costs and prevents chemical use and carbon emissions that occur during the creation of new equipment. The continued reliance on IT asset disposition will increasingly serve companies in the future as they see major financial incentives while offering a valuable service to the environment. Customers and clients will appreciate the powerful security strategies and the "green" approach to company policy. In the persistently digital world, companies will more and more rely on ITAD strategies to get the greatest return on their technology investments.

What to Do If My Computer Is Slow

The "my computer is slow" resentment is experienced by many and it's a widespread issue that needs to be addressed. Stuff to revive computer agility should be given due attention.

Foremost that should be given close scrutiny is the PC registry. Because it is loaded with database all about the PC assembly, the Operating System must keep an eye on the diverse configurations of the various installed hardware. If they don't match, then there is a problem. Windows has unique requirements that use unique machine configurations.

As pointed out, the problem may lie in the PC registry. The glitches may be seen early on but they tend to become more complex as time progresses. A scan and repair of the registry can be found from the internet to promptly halt the inert responses observed. The scan and repair tool is a freeware. Generally, more powerful tools, the ones that have to be bought, can only submit the errors found; but the total scan is the first step to help decide whether to make the purchase or not.

Installed applications deplete the computer memory. Thinking twice then before downloading or installing applications is best precaution. Some of them are just ornaments that bear no real value. It may well be a good tip to resolve the "my computer is slow"complaint.

Some installed programs may have to go if not used. They can easily be removed through your "Add or Remove" feature from the Control Panel. When automatic start up is enabled in certain programs, they run together with the system in reboot. The startup programs use memory and CPU time. Consider the following on how to disable the automatic startup.
Startup programs can be deleted by pressing the Start task bar, then All Programs and look for Startup in the rolled up list. Just Right-click it then press Delete. Another way of doing this is again to click the Start then Run, and type "msconfig". Wait until a window comes out, and then choose Startup from the indexes. The checked items are programs that run alongside the system upon rebooting. Click the Disable button then Apply, but if unsure if you're disabling the right item, it is better to leave it as is.
There are on-line disk defragmenters that effectively optimize the file system. Find the best freeware software that can do the job. They accelerate the computer by compressing files together. Some not only raise the PC performance but also repair computer errors.
Heat and dust factors affect the computer's performance. Fans are built-in in computer encasements. They keep the machine cool down from long hours of use. The computer case can easily be opened; the dust can be wiped-off through the use of a simple paint brush.

To sum it up, excellent technology that diagnoses and put the computer on stable status is the best solution to the "my computer is slow" problem. They can be had for free from the internet. They contour the computer registry minus the high priced hardware upgrades.
